With increasing use of Technology in government, and the commitment to e-governance, the computer awareness competition for the police forces has become a regular item of the All India Police Duty Meets for the last several years. The competitions which include written and practical tests are conducted by the National Crime Records Bureau - New Delhi with the assistance of the Host State, Karnataka this year. The competition in which over 24 States/UT and central police formations have confirmed participation will be held in the BMP Complex at Madivala from 11th onwards. Along with the Computer Awareness competitions, an IT Exhibition called PoliceIT2002.net is being hosted for the first time. Police forces of the country who have taken several initiatives in Information Technology are show casing their work on this occasion. IT Vendors who have special products for Police applications are also invited to exhibit their product ranges. The idea behind organizing this IT exhibition solely for the Police applications is to show how use of IT is impacting the programme of modernizing the police forces and improving the delivery of the police services to the common people. The government's policy on Transparency and Right to Information is being given practical shape in Police department and this is an opportunity to interact and workout better solutions for a people friendly police force backed by IT solutions. A seminar on "Police IT Initiatives - Problems and Prospects" will also be held to discuss future IT initiatives for the Police.
